    Questions from EJ
What drew you to Star Trek?
I saw the newest movie sometime over the summer with Mattie...I think. I had the urge to watch the original series on hulu because I was intrigued by the story and the boredom that comes with summer. I pretty much fell in love with the campyness of it, the playing dress-up, Captain Kirk's space swashbuckling and the wry humor and back and forth between Spock and Mccoy. I ended up marathoning the first season over one weekend and then I was totally lost to it. I love the historical context of the production as well, like the implications of what Gene was trying to portray with a multicultural cast of a pretty kick ass future where people are cool to one another. I also firmly believe that Kirk/Spock is a cannon as he could make it without getting lynched, which furthers the whole "future is groovy" hypothesis (I just wish the ideas of equality carried over to gender as well)...and while on the topic of kirk/spock, I hadn't read fanfiction since I was a sophomore in highschool, but I started up again for the sake of Kirk/Spock. Their dynamic is so intriguing...and impossibly hot.
Here's the fic if you get bored....which I know you will.

To what extent does what you've learned in psychology influence your daily life?

My perspective is so much more open with all of the information I've learned....at least what I've retained of it. I'm more tolerant of people's behavior because my empathic reasoning has a wider knowledge base from which to draw upon, I have ideas of motivators that I couldn't necessarily conceive.I also feel as if I'm a SLIGHTLY better conversationalist because I have tons of fun anecdotal tidbits to relay as icebreakers and responses. Also, I'm passionate about psychology, I'm super afraid because I really have no idea what I'm going to do for a career, but when I talk about information I've retained from classes, I feel infinitely better because from what I learn, I want to learn so much more and that information isn't necessarily out there, so there are tons of possibilities. I'm also more skeptical and needy for empirical evidence. That mostly comes from my leaning more towards the neurobiological perspective (as much as one can without actually being a neuroscientist)

Do you regret not leaving Boston for school?
I regret not expanding my horizons a bit, because I'm a lot more dependent upon my parents than I would like to be. However I really treasure my relationship with them and appreciate my ability to visit them so frequently. The proximity to home also means that I'm able to come home for breaks to see the crew, no matter what, so I'm happy about that. What I really regret is commuting for so long. It cut down on my social life, independence and growth.

Why do you like Japanese culture so much?
surprisingly, I really don't. I mean, I'm as much in love with it as I am American culture. I started learning about japanese culture as part of the rabid fangirl phase I went through in highschool which went like this "Wow, what are these shows? They're really cool. I want to find other cool stuff like this." and education on japanese culture was a subsequent phenomena is the form of translation notes and cultural blirbs in manga serials. I took a more academic standpoint as my tastes got better. I broadened my knowledge base with alot more American comics and much more serious manga. I had fallen into a East Asian studies major because I'd taken Japanese literature and 2 semesters of language, so I furthered my studies with east asian history. As you know, my grandfather was a professor of east asian studies, and I felt the need to not sound like the kind of twat that only knows a few tidbits from manga. From a sociological/psychological perspective, Japanese culture is interesting because it's FUCKED UP. "Japan is Fucked-Up" is pretty much the answer for everything you can encounter from the country, but it's far more fun to find the sources of the weirdness, so further study is still an interesting prospect to me. And though I'm not nearly as well versed in it as I am with Japan, I'm interested in Chinese and Korean culture. I'm much more in tune with korean culture because of my former co-op job as an ESL teacher for mostly college age koreans. But I had read a really fascinating book on china last year for east asian studies called Fragile Superpower, and it really wonderful to expand my understanding of the integral components to current Chinese cultural trends.

If you had to live somewhere for five years which was neither in the US nor Japan, where would it be?
I have the horrible duality tearing between the poles of my love for citylife and rural scenery. I can't stand not being within walking distance of bookstores or any convenient stores/restaurants, and living so close to so many of my friends is super wonderful for my social life because it's not to much of a schlep to get to them and so I have no excuse not to go out. On the other hand, I LOVE nature. On my walks to school, I'm always looking at trees and flowers. I've been going up to New Hampshire since I was wee, so I also love expanses of outdoors, places where other animals aside from people and city critters can call home.
Keeping all that in mind; Canada? Either in the city or rural farmlands. Maybe somewhere damp and pretty in rural Ireland or somewhere smoggy and historic in London.

So I essentially promised myself that I’d never angst in LJ ever again but….yeah

I kind of don’t know where to begin. This is super personal and longwinded and pathetic so I’ll lj cut it. Don’t feel as if you have to read it, it’s SERIOUSLY longwinded.

    Angst )

By the way, I did not proof read that entry in anyway and it's most likely nonsensical. I just needed to get things off my chest.

    ho shit bloging
whenever I get to urge to post on lj, I suddenly stop. I think this is mostly because I find life uneventful or my prose inelegant. Also my lj posts seem to be mostly agnst fests but NO MATTER.

Recently I seem to be really enjoying work, despite it being tiring and and the hours being long. I like my boss, he's kinda like the japanese Fonzie. The other intern from NEU a peach pie of a girl who's taught me the joys of "yelp" which has made looking around central square for interesting shit a lot easier. This morning when I walked by her in the kitchenette she was so excited because she brought lassana for US to eat between classes at lunch. ADORABLE.

Life's pretty good, despite Rizzo being too busy with work to talk and 4chan becoming my new addiction. Iunno, I think I need to get back into the habbit of posting here so I can refine my writing and properly reflect on my day....and shit.

Your result for The Color Code Test...

    Color Code: YELLOW: The Jester

    14% Red, 34% Blue, 14% White and 37% Yellow!

Here is the basics: For a more in depth analysis, I suggest you look up the Color Code, and take a more intensive test.

    YELLOW MOTIVE: FUN

YELLOW NEEDS: To look good (socially), To be noticed, To be praised, Approval from the masses.

YELLOW WANTS: To hide insecurities (loosely), Happiness, Freedom, Playful adventure.

SUMMARY: Yellows value play. They consider life to be a party, and they're hosting. Yellows welcome praise. They need to be noticed. LIttle else improves a relationship with a Yellow more than praise. They need emotional connections. They often appear so nonchalant that peope think they don't care about anything. Nothing can be further from the truth. They need a great deal of attention. They need to be stroked. They enjoy touching. To them, physical contact is often the most direct, comfortable intimate connection. Yellows want to be popular. They like to be center stage. Friendships command a high priority in their lives because popularity answers one of their basic needs - the need for general approval. Yellows like action. They are easily bored, and seek adventure. They can never sit still for long, so they choose friends who, like them, refuse to allow the "boring details" get in the way of the most important thing in life - play.

Your result for Which Chess Piece are You Test?...

    The Queen's Knight

Congrats! Only 4-5% of the population score this!

The Queen’s Knight is armed with rose-colored glasses. The mundane comes to life and nature becomes expressive of spirit. The interesting thing about this Knight is the ability to switch from fantasy to reality. There are exceptions to the rule, but this is the type that may have had imaginary friends as a youngster. Their stuffed animals also were great companions. The Queen’s Knight will see the good in almost anyone or anything – but their depth of emotion can remain hidden even from themselves. Circumstances tend to reveal sudden responses.

Not all life is rosy and this Knight is not exempt from disappointment or frustration with humanity. They may feel incompetence when dealing with their own ethical values. Things aren’t simply white black, but a grand battle of Good versus Evil. Evil must be reckoned with but Good shall eventually win. It is not that they fight evil, but that they fight for the essence of moral good. Doing something good is quite satisfactory for them and indeed increases their happiness. It is when something is not reciprocated to them that they are saddened and disappointed by others. They learn that others aren’t as self-sacrificing.

The Queen's Knight is dominated by an inner world of intense feeling and deeply rooted ethics. They seek to form their life based on their views. They are highly curious of those around them so are readily accepting of others unless their values are being threatened. They promote insight and understanding amongst others and contribute well thought ideas. They however can be a bit too idealistic.

    I need some wings
So I didn't sleep last night and had psychobiology this afternoon. What was my solution?
I bought me some redbull. I've never tried it before.

    1. it tastes like moldy month old mt. dew mixed with green nyquil that's been mixed with dumpster water.
    2. redbull has enough taurine to drop an elephant. And as rumor has it, too much redbull can double a person's chance of heart attack.

so Um, it made me feel kinda shitty for a few hours. But at least I stayed awake. :D

Does anyone want to recomend a reasonably tasty, lo cal energy drink that won't leave me fealing like I climbed 20 flights of stairs?

The next day I check my inbox and I got a reply....in japanese. I spent 2 hours trying to read it and just totally failed. I think they think I'm fluent. I'm not even CLOSE.

    Love is a Virus
So all day I had this funny feeling in my stomach and I was like "Kaw! Silly you, you're just nervous because you get to see that guy you like today". So I tried to be cool with it.

Around 12pm tonight, after all sorts of coolness, I threw up
in the comfort of my own home.

So my entire digestive tract is finally leading the resistance against the rest of my body.

-Stomach: "Alright team, TO VICTORY!" *runs around and does summersalts*
-Small Intestine: "Fuck yeah! I'm on strike bitch!"
-Large Intestine: "If he's not gonna do his job right, I'm not working either."
-Esophagus: " Wait, Guys! We gotta think this stuff through, you don't work right where is all the stuff gonna g-OHMYGAWDMAKEITSTOOOOOP!"

So when I crawled to my mom like "I'm DYING! Please settle my affairs *kthxbye*" she told me I have that Noral Virus thingie.

If you have seen within the last 7 days (the incubation period is 4-6 days) burn all of your clothes....or just take good care of yourself and shiz. ;_; I Sorry.

You have a strong sense of the communal good and you aren't too demanding. You know better than to mess with the powers that be. You value being surronded by the right people, but don't care too much about what people beyond your group think of you. You are also the last element to be mentioned in every vitamin commercial, and have gained recognition throughout the 50+ community as the very symbol of "completeness." Hmm, you might be good at taking care of sick people, but that might be hogwash too.
